FAQ

Why is Pseudomonas aeruginosa dangerous?

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a widespread bacterium that can be found almost everywhere, e.g. in water or soil. It is not very dangerous for healthy people. However, it can cause various illnesses in people at risk, such as immunocompromised people, ranging from skin inflammation on contact with contaminated water to pneumonia caused by inhaled aerosols.

Due to its widespread distribution in hospitals, P. aeruginosa is extremely resistant to antibiotics, which makes treatment considerably more difficult.

During construction work or new installations, a drinking water system can be unintentionally contaminated with P. aeruginosa. Water meters are a link in this chain and can be contaminated with this bacterium during production, calibration, improper storage or even installation, so that it is introduced into the pipe system.
